In a significant boost to its global winter tourism profile, Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir has inaugurated the world's highest revolving multi-purpose hall, which prominently features a revolving restaurant. Situated atop the majestic Apharwat Peak, this new attraction is set to become a major draw for international and domestic visitors, offering a unique high-altitude dining experience paired with unparalleled 360-degree panoramic views of the Himalayas.
Dining Above the Clouds: Location and Altitude
The new facility is located on Apharwat Peak, reaching an altitude of over 4,000 metres (nearly 14,000 feet) above sea level. It is easily accessible via the famous Gulmarg Gondola, the world's highest operating cable car.
Designed as a glass-clad, warm refuge against the extreme mountain weather, the restaurant structure rotates gently, allowing patrons to witness the breathtaking landscape—snow-clad peaks, deep valleys, and the shifting colours of the sky—as a continually moving postcard. The sheer height of the location officially establishes it as the world's highest revolving restaurant.

Culinary and Conference Features
The revolving hall is a multi-purpose facility, underscoring a commitment to enhancing visitor and business experiences:
The Revolving Restaurant: The menu is curated to offer refined hospitality along with a taste of local culture. Visitors can enjoy traditional Kashmiri offerings, such as the aromatic Kahwa, alongside other curated local cuisine and international selections.
Rotating Conference Hall: The complex also includes a rotating conference hall, providing a distinctive venue for high-altitude meetings, corporate retreats, and international events, making Gulmarg an attractive destination beyond just leisure tourism.
Weather Resilience: The entire structure has been engineered to operate smoothly even in the region’s challenging and extreme weather conditions, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for guests.
A Landmark in Gulmarg's Tourism Development
The inauguration of this record-setting attraction, along with other infrastructure projects, is part of a larger government initiative to upgrade Gulmarg's facilities and position it alongside leading alpine resorts worldwide.
Complementary Infrastructure: The opening coincided with the launch of Asia's longest ski drag lift, stretching 726 metres, on Apharwat Peak. This addition significantly enhances the skiing infrastructure by improving slope accessibility and reducing congestion for winter sports enthusiasts.
Record-Setting Destination: Gulmarg already holds several global distinctions, including the world's highest gondola. The addition of the revolving restaurant further solidifies its reputation as a hub for adventure tourism and high-altitude hospitality.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the facility, stressing that sustained investment in modern, high-quality infrastructure is essential to unlock Gulmarg's full potential as a premier global winter tourism destination and create employment opportunities for local youth.
