A heated dispute between a Rapido bike taxi rider and a woman passenger in Gurugram has generated huge attention on social media and raised many questions about respect, customer behavior and ride-hailing drivers’ culpability.
According to the viral video and posts circulating online, the dispute started after the Rapido rider dropped the woman near a McDonald's outlet in Gurugram. The woman said she didn't understand why the rider left her near the basement entrance instead of dropping her directly inside the restaurant premises.
She said, “If you knew McDonald's was inside, why did you bring me out through the basement? You could’ve dropped me inside.”
The rider calmly replied that he had simply followed the destination shown by the Rapido application.
"The location was showing here. I follow the location in the app. Why are you being rude?" he replied.
But the conversation quickly heated up when the passenger told the rider, "Was I rude to your father? I've made the payment. Now get lost."
The remark appears to have embarrassed the rider and he defended himself and asked the passenger to speak respectfully.
"Don't bring my father into this. Talk respectfully. Do you speak like that at home too? You look educated, but you have no manners,” he said.
The video has since spread across social media sites, with thousands of people sharing their opinions. But some said that the rider remained composed even after being insulted, while others said both parties could have handled the situation more calmly.
Many users pointed out that app-based drivers usually rely on GPS navigation and are expected to stop at the location marked within the ride-hailing application. Disruption of the mapped destination can result in safety issues and billing issues and the journey completion.

The incident has once again exposed the difficulties for gig workers who see hundreds of customers every week. Drivers in ride-hailing are often so dependent on app navigation and customer ratings, so respectful communication must be maintained.
At the same time, social media users highlighted that customers also demand easy drop-off points for their shopping malls, restaurants and commercial complexes, where there are more than one entrance to a shopping center. Clear communication before the ride ends, they said, would prevent misunderstandings.
So far Rapido has not provided any official statement about the viral incident.
The incident is just another reminder that respect by people is the foundation of manners and it is not the case that nobody gets it right or wrong.
And nowadays, in a world of smartphones and viral videos, even a small dispute can change all of a sudden a whole lot of people’s thoughts and behaviors and manners about public behavior and courtesy.
