A domestic dispute in Hassan district got set up to be a drama where a lady was said to have deserted her husband and child to be away with her lover. The scenario in the Gerooru Police Station was handled until it is now a legal and emotional drama-show as the main actors are now sparring in the courtroom, as they tell opposite stories.
This was a woman of a title Harshita, married to Prakash for 8 years. Overnight she seemed to leave home, which concerned family members, according to initial reports. A few hours later, a video of a man believed to be her lover tying a mangalsutra around her neck in a car became viral, sparking a lengthy public debate and controversy.
Then things got more complicated when Harshita tried again and claimed to talk to her husband after she left, apologising — and asking her husband to take her back. But Prakash did not reconcile. Later, Harshita released a statement in a video from an undisclosed location refusing to accept many the allegations she received. Prakash accused his wife of planning her departure before he spoke to the media.

On April 10, he said, she’d drugged him with sleeping pills before leaving home and leaving it, and carrying away gold jewellery and cash with her, he alleged. He also claimed to have returned home again following police having intervened in a fight before, leaving again. Prakash was furious when she deserted their young daughter, so he demanded stern legal action against her.
On the other hand, Harshita has vehemently denied all accusations. She claimed to have voluntarily left the marriage and was not abducted and would not modify her plan. She said she suffered mental as well as physical harassment and was placed in what amounts to a restricted housing arrangement during their marriage.
She said she was denied personal freedom and was in search of an exit from the relationship a long time ago. Harshita also said that she had called the authorities at some point ago and told them she wanted a divorce. Her rationale had pertained to her need for security and autonomy, she added, and she was going to have trouble looking for legal separation while also taking ownership of what would enable her to have a child and a financially independent life apart.
The police have not yet issued a formal statement about the case. The authorities say they are considering the issue, issuing statements from all parties being examined. Legal commentators argue that some of these issues often entail several dimensions: rights to their marriage, charges of abuse or custody of the child.
The event has stirred debate about marital disputes, women’s agency and the importance of having a proper legal process when it comes to coming to resolution. As the investigation proceeds, the facts on the other side of the claims have not been revealed. For now, the case stands as a reminder of how personal disputes can swiftly take the form of public controversies especially in the age of viral videos and social media scrutiny.
