Haveri: In a heartbreaking incident from Hesarur village in Savanur taluk of Haveri district, an elderly couple who shared more than 45 years of married life passed away within hours of each other, leaving their family and the entire village in mourning.
The married couple, Shantamma (60) and Junjappa Barki (70), were well known in their village for their simple lifestyle, mutual respect and deep affection for each other. Their relationship had long been considered a great example of companionship and commitment.
A Lifetime of Togetherness
For over four decades, Shantamma and Junjappa were together in life’s joys and hardships. They worked together to support their family, weathered some tough times together, and remained friends as they got older.
Villagers recalled the couple being so good for each other and so well loved and well-tied up.
Wife Dies at Midnight
According to family members, Shantamma died around midnight after suffering from age-related health problems.
Her death came as a devastating blow to Junjappa, who had spent nearly his entire adult life with her. Relatives said he was deeply distressed when he learned of her death and found it difficult to come to terms with the loss.
Husband Dies Hours Later
And Junjappa, unable to bear the grief of losing his lifelong companion, died just a few hours later, family members said.
He told relatives he was in a state of sorrow and that he could not imagine life without his wife, his family said. The emotional shock is thought to have left him in a bad way, although the actual medical cause of his death has not been confirmed.
Village Mourns the Couple
The news of the couple’s death spread fast through Hesarur village, where residents arrived to pay their condolences to the family of the lost.
In fact, many villagers said their deaths were a reminder of the close bond the couple had had for all those years. Friends and neighbours remembered them as kind-hearted people who were always ready to help others and whose friendship inspired many people in the community.
The final journey of these two people together has touched a lot of people in the community, and some people say they did not believe that death could separate two people who had been 45 years together and were still by each other’s sides.
The incident has touched many hearts, but officials have not identified any suspicious circumstances, and it is a tragic personal loss for the family.
