Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi-NCR: Flight Operations Hit at IGI Airport

A sudden and intense storm with heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the NCR region on Tuesday, causing a sharp drop in temperatures but also widespread interruptions. The bad weather and the poor weather conditions have disrupted flight delays and flights at IGI Airport, so many flights have been cancelled and turned up wrong.

During the peak of the storm, at least 22 flights have been diverted to nearby airports Jaipur and Lucknow at the time of the storm and these are all safe to fly. Heavy rain and heavy showers on the runway have made it difficult to see that many flights left and arrived at IGI Airport but the airport has been cancelled.

The unstable weather and strong winds (with 40-50 kmph winds) have made air traffic control to change the number of landings in this day and night and there is backlog in the afternoon and evening time. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Delhi-NCR for the next 48 hours.

The current situation is due to a very active Western Disturbance and changing wind patterns. Weather forecast for April 7-8: Light to moderate rainfall, isolated hailstorms and lightning in Delhi and Noida and Gurugram with rain and rain in the background.
