In a heart-stopping moment caught on camera, a tragic accident was averted at the Pandavapura Railway Station in Mandya district, thanks to the heroic presence of mind shown by a railway official. A passenger who nearly fell under the wheels of a moving train was pulled to safety in the nick of time.
The Incident: A Close Brush with Death
The incident occurred when a passenger attempted to board a moving train destined for Tirupati. As the train began to gain momentum and pull out of the platform, the passenger lost his balance and slipped while trying to grab the handle of the coach.
For a terrifying second, the passenger was dragged along the platform and was on the verge of slipping into the narrow gap between the train and the platform—a situation that often results in fatal injuries.
Station Master’s Split-Second Heroism
The Station Master on duty, identified as Abhijit, was monitoring the platform when he spotted the passenger struggling. Without a second thought for his own safety, Abhijit dashed toward the moving train and grabbed the passenger, pulling him away from the dangerous gap and back onto the platform.
Eyewitnesses at the station praised the official's lightning-fast reaction. "It happened in the blink of an eye. If the Station Master hadn't acted at that exact moment, the passenger would have been pulled under the wheels," said a fellow traveler.
Railway Authorities Issue Warning
Following the incident, railway authorities have lauded Abhijit for his humanity and alertness. At the same time, they have issued a stern warning to the public regarding the dangers of boarding or deboarding moving trains.
- Don't Risk Lives: Passengers are urged to reach the station at least 30 minutes before departure.
- Avoid Running: Never attempt to board a train once it has started moving, as the smooth platform surface and the train's momentum make it extremely easy to lose balance.
The video of the rescue has since gone viral on social media, with netizens hailing the Mandya Station Master as a real-life hero.
