Is Dhanush Planning to Join Politics After Vijay's Historic Rise?

Thalapathy Vijay’s remarkable transition from cinema to politics (he had the opportunity to take oath as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister in May 2026) has revived a lot of speculation in the film industry. The question that every fan must ask is: Who will follow in his footsteps? And the name most frequently talked of now is Dhanush.

What did Kasthuri Raja Say? The buzz began when veteran director Kasthuri Raja, Dhanush's father, spoke to the media at a private event in Chennai. When asked directly whether Dhanush would one day enter politics, Kasthuri Raja neither confirmed nor denied the possibility.

"Anyone can enter politics if they want," he said. “Not only my sons but even my grandchildren have their options open and can take that path in the future.” He added that his son's political entry would remain a personal choice, saying: “I am old I won’t enter politics. But my children Dhanush and Selvaraghavan might. My grandchildren might too.”

No Immediate Plans

Despite the speculation, there are multiple reports that Dhanush has no political plans at this stage. The actor is already committed to his packed film pipeline (D55, D56, D57, and the long-awaited Vada Chennai 2, according to his father).

The Vijay Factor

The timing of these remarks is significant. Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) came into the forefront of Tamil Nadu politics in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. His victory has led to the discussion about other actors following suit. For now, Dhanush is focused on cinema. But Kasthuri Raja’s open-ended comments have left the door ajar—and his millions of fans, watching closely.
