Jaisalmer, Rajasthan: Heavy rainfall in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer triggered severe waterlogging inside the Government Jawahar Hospital, with patients, attendants and medical staff struggling through flooded corridors.
Videos and images from the hospital have been posted online showing ankle-deep water in wards and passageways, raising serious questions about public health facilities during the monsoon season.
The unanticipated downpour overwhelmed the hospital drainage system and rainwater flooded parts of the building.
People could be seen wading through water to get to treatment areas, while hospital staff worked to prevent further damage to medical services. Patients who were very elderly, children, and those recovering from surgery were concerned for their safety in the flood zone.
Witnesses said the hospital corridors, waiting rooms, and entrances were flooded by continuous rainfall. Visitors couldn’t walk around the waiting room, and wheelchairs and stretchers had trouble making it through the waterlogged floors.
Emergency medical services were still operating in spite of the bad weather, with healthcare workers still working in full force to give patients care.
