A jewellery shop owner has been injured when armed men opened fire during an attempted robbery at a jewellery store in Dabaspete in Nelamangala taluk of Karnataka on Thursday. Police are searching for the accused, who fled from the scene after the attack.
According to police, the incident took place at Prem Shiva Jewelry, where five to six unidentified men arrived in a Bolero SUV. They allegedly came into the store as customers looking at gold ornaments, and the suspects were trying to avoid suspicion, investigators said.

Police said that after entering the store, the group attempted to rob the business. The shop owner, Punnaram, who was identified, refused to respond to the robbery attempt, police said.
During the struggle, the attackers opened fire on the shop owner and fled from the scene, Punnaram suffered injuries in the firing and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Hospital officials said he is being treated and not admitted, but police have not yet released any information about the extent of his injuries.
As soon as the police received information about the incident, the local police rushed to the jewellery store and secured the crime scene. Senior police officers and forensic experts came and searched the premises as part of the investigation.
Two live bullets were recovered at the jewellery shop during the search, investigators found in the jewellery shop. Forensic investigators also had physical evidence from the scene, fingerprints, CCTV footage, and other evidence from the scene which could help identify the suspects and reconstruct the sequence of events.
Police have registered a case and initiated a full investigation into attempted robbery and firing. Police are watching CCTV footage of the jewellery store and neighbouring establishments to locate the Bolero SUV’s movement and the suspects in the crime.
The police are also seeking evidence from witnesses who saw the suspects before or after the incident, the local shopkeepers, and residents of nearby areas who may have seen the suspects. Police believe these accounts, and forensic evidence presented by investigators will give the case a big edge in the case, he said.
Search teams have been deployed in and around Nelamangala and nearby areas to locate the accused. Checkposts have been alerted, and information has been shared with neighbouring police units to prevent the suspects from escaping the area, the report said.
Traders and business owners in the region and even jewellery merchants who often deal with high-value items and cash transactions are worried. Local traders told local authorities to step up security measures and increase police presence to prevent the kind of crime.
Police officials are also appealing to the public for any information that could help detectives know the suspects and the vehicle that was involved in the crime. People who give false information or rumours or speculation when the investigation is ongoing are warned off.
It is only a preliminary investigation and all aspects of the case– including the alleged robbery and who did it and who are the culprits– are being investigated,” said authorities. More details will be presented as investigators look for fingerprints and surveillance footage.
The attempted robbery and shooting underscore the ongoing problem of organized property crime, and police said they are confident the suspects will be identified and brought to justice through the investigation.
