One motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries after his bike plunged into a water-filled pothole on a road in Gujarat's Junagadh. The quality of civic infrastructure during the monsoon season is in doubt, as he did not have any safety records and is suspected to have been injured in a water-filled pothole in Gujarat’s Junagadh. A motorcycle rider had to put his bike into a pothole on the road, in the middle of the monsoon season.
The accident occurred on a stretch of road where excavation work had recently been done, police said. The road was repaired with temporary patchwork, but heavy rainfall masked the pothole under the water deposit, and commuters were unable to see the hazard.
As he passed through the waterlogged section, the motorcycle lost balance when it struck the concealed pothole, and he fell violently on the road. The rider was seriously injured.

Residents and passers-by rushed to the victim’s aid before he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be serious, but no word on his health was available.
Public outrage has resulted in residents questioning the quality of road repair work done by the Junagadh Municipal Corporation. Poor road restoration and maintenance during the monsoon have endangered drivers and pedestrians in the city, said local people.
The accident has also reignited concerns over the dangers of waterlogged roads, where potholes often remain hidden beneath rainwater. Road safety experts say such conditions significantly increase the risk of accidents, particularly for two-wheeler riders, who are more prone to losing control of their vehicles.
Residents claimed the incident showed the municipal body’s infrastructure maintenance failures, particularly as the first spell of monsoon rains has already revealed defects in recently repaired roads. Most have asked the authorities to quickly make inspections of damaged stretches, repair such stretches properly, and strengthen drainage systems to prevent such accidents.
Public officials and citizens have also called for stronger accountability from contractors that dig and clean up roads and have demanded quality checks before roads can be reopened to traffic.
The municipal corporation has not yet stated the incident. What is expected to happen is that the accident will be investigated to determine whether road maintenance was to blame for it.
The incident is only another reminder of the need for durable road repairs and timely maintenance during the rainy season, when potholes are a big hazard for all commuters in the city.
