In the wake of speculation on the expansion of the Karnataka cabinet's membership, political activity has become more and more active in Bengaluru and Delhi. As speculation about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit to the capital city, Magadi MLA H.C. Balakrishna is currently on a spiritual journey to temples to seek divine intervention and blessings for the upcoming reshuffle.
Balakrishna is a veteran politician as well as one of the aspirants for a ministerial position and has taken the initiative to pray to the gods. He visited several famous temples that he and his wife are passionate about, including the famous Srikanteshwara (Nanjundeshwara) temple in Nanjangud and Chamundi Hills Temple in Mysuru. The couple offered special prayers at these places to the gods to see if their prayers could turn political tides in their favor.
As a five-term MLA, Balakrishna has openly expressed his optimism about his chances of being considered for a ministerial seat if the cabinet expansion materializes. His confidence comes from his long-standing association with the party and his contributions to the political landscape in Karnataka. Balakrishna has made appeals to the party leadership based on his experience in politics and the role that he has played in the last few decades.
Balakrishna had traveled to Delhi last week for talks with senior Congress leaders to convince them to include him in the cabinet. His efforts to talk to the party’s high-level decision-makers are an indication of the importance he places on this. And now, with the Chief Minister’s coming to Delhi for a visit to bring back the prospect of the cabinet expansion, Balakrishna’s temple visits have fueled media and political interest as well.
While cabinet expansion is being discussed in the political world, the Congress leadership has yet to make any announcement on the induction of new ministers. This, however, is not yet officially announced, but the timing of appointments, the number of vacancies to be filled, and the names of potential appointees are debated by party leaders.
Political observers said aspirants are more likely to engage party leaders and go on spiritual trips (e.g., temple visits) when cabinet appointments are on their way.
