Voting in the second and final phase of the urban local body elections in Rajasthan began on Friday with a strong turnout of voters and the state recorded 20.51% polling by 10 a.m., according to the State Election Commission. Despite technical mishaps with some polling machines, voters turned out to vote at polling centres and exercise their franchise.
The urban local body elections in Rajasthan are being conducted in two phases and the last phase of polling is on Friday. Voters in different municipal bodies, including municipalities and other urban local institutions, are participating in the election process.
The images shown at several polling stations showed that voters showed up early in the morning and in queues waiting to vote. Election officials have arranged that polling takes place so that voters can exercise their democratic rights without interference.
20.51% Voting Recorded by 10 AM
According to State Election Commission data, Rajasthan had an overall voter turnout of 20.51% at 10 am on Friday. That was more than one-fifth of voters who had already cast their votes within the first few hours of polling.
The majority of voting took place in the early morning in several urban areas. Polling will continue throughout the day and officials expect the turnout to rise as more voters go to polling stations.
The morning turnout figures, however, cannot be treated as the final polling percentage. The final turnout will only be known after voting is completed and the complete data is collected by election authorities.
Dhorimanna Records Highest Turnout
Among the urban local bodies, Dhorimanna Municipality in Balotra district recorded the highest voter turnout by 10 am, according to the State Election Commission.
The municipality had a 44.38% turnout as of 10 AM. The relatively high percentage within just a few hours of the beginning of polling indicates strong voter participation in the area.
The turnout in Dhorimanna is considerably above the state average of 20.51%. The figures also show the differences in the voter turnout among urban local bodies in the election.
Udaipur Records Lowest Turnout
At the other end of the spectrum, Udaipur Municipal Corporation recorded the lowest turnout among the areas highlighted in the election data.
Only 12.06% of voters had exercised their franchise in Udaipur by 10 am. That is significantly lower than the turnout in Dhorimanna during the same period.
But such a difference does not necessarily indicate how the final turnout will look in either area. Voting was still underway, and turnout can change substantially during the later hours of polling.
EVM Technical Issues Reported
Meanwhile, there were reports of technical problems with EVMs in some polling stations. The glitches caused some polling stations to be temporarily interrupted during the voting process.
The technical problems have been investigated and resolved in order that polling can proceed smoothly. Voters will also be instructed to follow the instructions of the election staff and wait at their polling station if there are problems in polling.
That eligible voters are able to cast their ballots, even for a few technical issues, is still an important responsibility for polling officials. We are working to restore the voting process where interruptions have been reported.
Focus on Final Turnout and Election Outcome
Since this is the second and final stage of the Rajasthan urban local body elections, political parties, candidates, and supporters are closely monitoring voter participation across different municipal areas.
Local issues of roads, water supply, sanitation, civic infrastructure, waste management, and other urban development concerns are expected to remain important considerations for voters.
The 20.51% statewide turnout by 10 am is an early indication of voter participation, but the final picture will only emerge after polling ends. Dhorimanna’s 44.38% and Udaipur’s 12.06% turnout have already attracted attention.
With voting continuing, all eyes will now be on the turnout during the remaining hours and the subsequent election results. We hope the final figures will provide a clearer picture of voter engagement in Rajasthan’s urban local bodies and the political outcome of the last phase.
