A Congress Gram Panchayat (GP) member was brutally murdered late friday night in Sakharayapatna, Kadur taluk, Chikkamagaluru district, following a massive brawl between two rival groups.
The deceased has been identified as Ganesh (38), a current GP member and a strong aspirant for the upcoming Congress ticket for the Zilla Panchayat elections from the Sakharayapatna constituency.
Details of the Incident
The fatal incident occurred around 10:30 PM near the Kalmurudeshwara Math in Sakharayapatna.
- Initial Confrontation: The dispute reportedly began half an hour earlier near a bar in Sakharayapatna.
- The Murder: The argument escalated, leading to a violent confrontation near the Math, where a group of youths attacked Ganesh with a machete (or similar sharp weapon), resulting in his immediate death.
- Casualties: Two individuals from the opposing group also sustained severe head injuries during the clash and have been admitted to the hospital.
A case has been registered at the Sakharayapatna Police Station, and an investigation into the murder is underway.
