Tensions erupted at Dharwad after allegations of inappropriate conduct were raised against a gym trainer in Dharwad and protests were made by a gym owner and police intervention forced police to intervene.
The incident occurred at a fitness centre in the Maratha Colony area in the city where Sabir has been accused by trainer members of misconduct in training sessions.
But at another time Bajrang Dal protested outside the gym. Protesters claimed that the trainer had targeted particular women and said severe action had to be taken against him.
Activists have locked the gym as well and yelled slogans in support of the protests that demanded that authorities take action against the accused. They also asked that the trainer be at the center of the situation immediately to clear their name.
The Sub-Urban Police Station sent officers from Dharwad Station to help control the situation. Officers tried to defuse the anger of the crowd without provoking anyone else, keeping them at bay to placate and restrain those who had been protesting. They told local media that they are reviewing the situation and will act on the complaints and investigate based on the complaints received.
Allegations at this stage have not been verified and there is no official proof as of now in which those charges remain unverified. All parties are advised to have patience and to allow for the pace of the process, police said in a statement.
As to gyms of particular importance in public spaces, safety is very important; and to make an investigation fair as well as thorough so everyone is able to answer its questions in the most complete manner possible. If not, the only outcome is to protect people from the wrong thing happening, and it is necessary to do that as an adult.
