A brutal attack in Kalaburagi district has been witnessed by a 57-year-old government school teacher who was brutally murdered and her body burnt by unidentified assailants, while she was traveling in a village near Kalmood.
The victim has been identified as Jyoti Kapale, a resident of Anand Colony. She was working as a teacher in Vanjarakhed village in the neighbouring Bidar district. Because of her job location she had been living in Bidar and would commute regularly to her workplace. She visited her home in Kalaburagi once a week.
According to initial police reports, Jyoti Kapale was found in a severely burnt condition by the roadside in Kalmood village when she was on her way to Bidar from Kalaburagi. Police believe that the attackers first killed her with sharp weapons before attempting to destroy evidence by throwing petrol on the body and setting it ablaze.
The horrific nature of the crime has raised alarms for safety and law enforcement in the area. Residents of the locality who discovered the body immediately alerted the police and an investigation was immediately launched by the Kamalapur Police Station. The body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death.
The motive behind the murder is not clear so far, police have said. They have not ruled out personal enmity or other angles. Police are gathering evidence related to Jyoti Kapale’s recent travels, phone records and working career background.
The whole thing has left the local community in shock, especially among the education community. Teachers and residents have been grief-stricken and want to know who is responsible for such a brutal act.
Police have registered a case and begun a manhunt to locate and arrest the culprits. All efforts are being made to locate and arrest the culprits, officials said.
