Karnataka IAS Officer Gnanendra Kumar Missing: Police Launch Search After He Goes Untraceable From Bengaluru Airport

A mysterious disappearance of Karnataka IAS officer Gnanendra Kumar has raised the alarm among high officials and led to a search operation by the police. The senior bureaucrat arrived at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Thursday morning, after telling others he was going to Delhi. But his mobile phone is switched off, and the location is unknown.

According to the initial information, Gnanendra Kumar had booked an air ticket to Delhi and travelled to Bengaluru airport with the intention of taking the flight. Police were able to track him up to the airport, and his mobile phone could not be found. The investigators are now trying to figure out if he actually boarded the flight or left the airport without travelling.

The officer is not in contact with his family even by phone, police said. And they are now looking into different options: whether he went to Delhi by another way, or moved to another location after he got to the airport. At this stage, police have not publicly said what could have caused his disappearance, or suggested that any particular reason might be behind his disappearance.

Gnanendra Kumar is currently serving as Managing Director of Karnataka's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) department, based on the information available in connection with this case. He is also in the KPSC, which is worrying because of a recent recruitment examination controversy.

The senior police officials received information about the IAS officer’s disappearance from another senior IAS officer. The matter was then brought to the attention of Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, after which police began to collect information about the officer’s movements. The police are looking for any electronic and physical evidence to determine where the officer is now.

One of the major areas of investigation is Kempegowda International Airport. Police are expected to check CCTV footage from the airport and surrounding areas to determine where the officer went after arriving at the terminal. Airport entry records, travel details and other available information may also help investigators to determine whether he arrived at the terminal, checked in for the flight or left the airport.

The disappearance has also attracted attention because it comes shortly after Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted searches in connection with alleged irregularities involving the KPSC veterinary officer recruitment examination. The searches reportedly took place on Wednesday, one day before Gnanendra Kumar was reported missing.

The recruitment examination case has become a crucial part of the wider investigation because Gnanendra Kumar was associated with the KPSC for years. The investigating agencies are investigating various aspects of the recruitment process, including activities during the period the officer was connected to the commission. But his previous work at KPSC does not prove that he has been involved in any wrongdoing, and authorities have not publicly linked his disappearance to the recruitment case.

The timing of the disappearance has also raised some speculation, since ED searches were reported to have been done only a day before it. But the two developments will be traced, and the timing will be tested. Any such connection must be based on evidence and official investigation rather than on the sequence of events.

Gnanendra Kumar has also been reported to have had health problems in the past. Police will be looking into all aspects of his health and personal life to find him, and they will be watching for him. There has been no official information publicly disclosed about what really happened to the officer after his phone was turned off.

The case is now a priority for police to track the missing IAS officer and trace his last known movements. CCTV footage, mobile phone records, travel information and statements from those who came into contact with him before he disappeared could be important in determining what happened.

At present, we are not sure what went wrong with Gnanendra Kumar; so far, Gnanendra Kumar’s disappearance is not clear, and police are still searching for answers. Police are still searching for ways that might have led to it while looking for other elements and gathering evidence. As time goes on, we will know more about whether the officer went to Delhi, stayed in Bengaluru, or went somewhere else.

The disappearance of a serving senior IAS officer has naturally raised concern within Karnataka’s administrative circles. But officials and the public will have to wait till the results of the ongoing investigation come out to know why or what happened to him.
