The Lokayukta police conducted an intensive raid on the residence and properties belonging to Dr. Shankar Naik, the District Health Officer (DHO) of Vijayanagara, on Wednesday. The search operation, which was carried out simultaneously across four locations in Hospet, continued well into the late hours, leading to the seizure of significant cash, gold, and crucial documents related to alleged disproportionate assets.
Significant Seizures in Ongoing Search
The Lokayukta raid began in the morning and continued past 7 PM, with officials thoroughly scrutinizing the DHO's properties. The preliminary list of seizures highlights the extent of the alleged ill-gotten wealth:
- Gold: 350 grams (approximately 9.50 tholas)
- Cash: ₹ 9 Lakh
- Silver: 310 grams
The officials were seen meticulously checking the documents and properties across multiple locations.
Focus on Property Documents and Sites
Apart from the cash and jewellery, the Lokayukta teams have seized a number of property documents, including those related to various sites and other assets. The verification of these records is still in progress, and officials are expected to continue the search and documentation process until late into the night. A clearer picture of the total value of Dr. Naik’s alleged disproportionate assets will emerge only after the complete inventory is finished.
Four Locations Under Scrutiny
Lokayukta officials formed three separate teams to conduct the simultaneous raids at four locations in Hospet. Key premises under the operation include Dr. Shankar Naik's residence and the private hospital he owns, both located on Jambunatha Road in Hospet, Vijayanagara district.
The operation was initiated based on specific complaints alleging that Dr. Shankar Naik had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income as a public servant. The high-profile raid has sent ripples through the district administration circles.
