Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara has explained that the decision to keep Sub-Registrar Offices open on Sunday as a one-time measure to clear backlogs of work and speed up services is a one-off step to improve public services at the state level.
And the Deputy Chief Minister said the decision was to compensate for work affected by consecutive holidays and to make sure the most important documents related to land and property were processed faster.
The goal of clearing the backlog
Dr. Parameshwara said the government wanted to complete the pending work, which could not be delayed by the government without causing unnecessary delays to the people.
He said since there were two consecutive holidays, including Saturday and Sunday, the government decided to make up for the lost working time by opening Sub-Registrar Offices for one additional day.
He believes that this will also help to help accelerate the processing of property registration, title deeds as well as title deeds, and other land-related documents, which are many of which are already in process because of heavy workloads.
Faster Processing of Public Services
The Deputy Chief Minister said the decision would enable quicker disposal of applications related to:
- Property registrations,
- Land ownership documents,
- Title deeds
Other registration services handled by Sub-Registrar Offices
He added that citizens should not have to wait for long periods for essential documentation when the backlog can be reduced via particular working arrangements.
Officials Will Be Compensated
Responding to concerns about government employees working on a holiday, Dr. Parameshwara said staff members would not suffer any loss.
He said the government would compensate employees by providing them with a holiday alternative or suitable adjustments at a later stage.
The employees will not be at a disadvantage. This is only a temporary arrangement, and compensation will be provided," he said.
One-Time Arrangement, Not a Permanent Policy
The Deputy Chief Minister made it clear that opening Sub-Registrar Offices on Sunday is not a permanent policy.
And he said the decision has only been made to manage the immediate workload and clear pending files.
Dr. Parameshwara also stressed that government officials will be given more responsibilities in the following months, such as Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises and the national Census, so it is important to complete the existing pending tasks as soon as possible.
Government Focused on Improving Service Delivery
Karnataka government says it is part of its larger effort to boost administrative efficiency and take public services to the public service delivery stage without delay.
By clearing the backlog now, officials hope to ease pressure on Sub-Registrar Offices, and so they can concentrate on their upcoming administrative duties.
