In a recent operation targeting illegal immigration, Kolkata Police arrested a Thai national from a spa centre situated on Sarat Bose Road in the southern part of the city. They followed up on information about foreign nationals residing in the country without legal documentation or permission to stay in the country.
The enforcement was launched late Sunday when a specialized investigation team from the Kolkata Police, who had been formed in July to catch unauthorized foreign residents, raided a spa in 15C Sarat Bose Road. A thorough sweep and interrogation at the scene identified the person as M. Sansukniyuat, a native of Bangkok residing in the city’s Tiljala area on Chaubagha Road for a number of years.
When questioned by the authorities, she could not provide any valid identification, permits, or legal documentation authorizing her extended stay in India. The Thai passport she did produce at the verification process was verified and it was found that her validity had already expired, from February 23, 2020, to February 23, 2025. Moreover, she was also shown that the tourist visa on which she entered the country had expired at least five years ago, from February 28, 2020, to February 27, 2021.
But after finding her expired credentials and unauthorized residency, police took her into custody with female personnel. She was then taken to Tollygunge Women's Police Station and is currently under closed-circuit television surveillance. The local authorities are continuing their citywide searches and investigations to check whether other foreign nationals are in the area with the same legal permission or not. The woman will be brought to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office in Kolkata for legal procedures and deportation from the country.
