The high-drama criminal case in Chamarajanagar district was solved after the arrest of the bride Nayana and her boyfriend. The plot was set around the bride-to-be reportedly hiring her lover to kill her fiancé, just a few hours before the wedding ceremony, in order to avoid a marriage she was being forced into.
The Incident: A Bloody Wedding Eve
On Dec 30, the marriage of Ravish, a Kunagalli village resident, and Nayana was set at the Venkateswara Marriage Hall, Kollegal. Ravish was traveling in a car toward the venue for the reception when he was intercepted by a group of men in another vehicle. The gang intentionally picked a fight, and amidst the chaos, one of the men stabbed Ravish with a knife before fleeing the scene. Ravish was seriously injured but was able to survive the attack.
The Case: The Victim Meets the Mastermind
In the immediate aftermath of the attack, the wedding was canceled. Nayana immediately ran to the hospital as though inconsolable at Ravish's side. She cried too, giving an ill-mouthed image of a bride shattered. But after she got an early intervention the Kollegal police got suspicious of her and started examining everyone’s call histories. After police accessed Nayana’s mobile records, breakthroughs occurred. They found a lot of contact between her and the prime accused, Darshan, who plays the tamate (traditional drum) and sells books.
The Triangle of Love and the Plot
The probe found that Nayana and Darshan were dating for more than two years. Nonetheless, her family arranged for her marriage with Ravish. Devoid of the wedding, at first, Nayana provided Ravish’s phone number to Darshan, asking him to threaten Ravish into calling off the nuptials. So when the threats faltered and the wedding date arrived, Nayana finally made a last, desperate step. Using her sister’s mobile phone to avoid police attention, she allegedly told Darshan to "finish off" the groom. Pursuing her instructions, Darshan and his company conducted the attack on the journey to the mandap.
Arrests and Legal Action
Darshan has admitted to the whole scheme during a police interrogation, revealing Nayana’s role. The police have since arrested:
- Nayana (the bride/mastermind)
- Darshan (the lover/prime accused)
- Mithun (accomplice)
Police confiscated the car involved in the crime and are currently conducting a manhunt for two additional suspects. This case has left the two families in deep trauma, and showed the extent to which the bride manipulated her own wedding to commit violence.
