But that was also in the Koppal district of Karnataka, where a love, marriage, cheating, assault and viral videos on social media scandal took off when a woman told him she accused him of deceiving her (with harassment) and reported it against him.
The incident took place at Munirabad Police Station, Koppal district. The complaint, that Manjula, who lives in Munirabad, accused was a man named Sadiq, who owns a Huligi computer and sales service shop, of cheating by first looking at her, then marrying her. Manjula, for her complaint, and Sadiq, who apparently had been dating and in a relationship for six years.
She accused Sadiq of showing love for her and of getting married about two years ago. But as of now, he lied to her about his existing marital status, and has no basis for this at all, she says. The woman alleged that Sadiq physically assaulted her, used derogatory language to confront her, threatened her bodily death and insulted her according to her caste.
She has also accused him of stealing her gold jewellery. The alleged transgression has made Manjula visit Munirabad police station on a serious legal complaint against him. The dispute has since spilt over into social media, with videos posted by both sides on social media going viral.
Manjula said he had put up Instagram pictures and videos documenting alleged moments from their marriage and their relationship. It was said that Sadiq, too, made videos replying to the allegations and rebuffing Manjula’s claims, Sadiq said. The videos, made public on social media, sparked a local buzz because both sides made public derogatory comments about each other.
The clips have led other social media users to follow and comment, adding to the controversy. It was apparently Sadiq who turned off his mobile phone, so attempts to reach him over the phone did not work, the sources said. Police officers would respond to the complaint and investigate the allegations and complaints made by both sides.
The police have not yet made an official statement on the arrests and legal proceedings in the case. That investigation likely will involve reviewing viral videos and digital evidence and the statements of both sides, police officials said.
