A shocking report of alleged assault came out from Ramanagara district, where a KSRTC driver was attacked by a group of unidentified men for asking about bus routes at the Kanakapura Bus Depot. Transport workers are angry and have grave concerns about the safety of workers and administrative practices in the transport corporation.
Shivakumar is a driver at Kanakapura Bus Depot in Kanakapura taluk. He said he was assaulted by five people after he raised questions about what he claimed was an unfair route allocation in the depot.
The incident took place on the depot premises when Shivakumar returned after completing his scheduled bus service. A group of five men confronted him and physically attacked him, the report said. A video of the assault from a colleague’s mobile phone has now emerged and is being examined as part of the investigation.
Shivakumar claims that the attack was not random but was due to his objections to route assignments in the depot. He said in his complaint that some routes were being allocated to favoured people, and he questioned the fairness of these decisions.
The driver has specifically accused Kanakapura Unit Manager Sachin of orchestrating the assault. Shivakumar said that the manager arranged for the attackers to target him after he raised concerns about the route allocation process. He also said that employees who question administrative decisions face intimidation and harassment.
The allegations have generated considerable attention because of claims that the unit manager is politically connected. Shivakumar claimed Sachin is a supporter of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and used his influence to silence criticism. These allegations are still claims made by the complainant and have not been independently verified by authorities.
The video footage of the incident is expected to play a crucial role in the investigation. Witnesses and colleagues who were at the depot at the time of the incident may also be questioned by police to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved in the alleged attack.
Shivakumar immediately approached the police and presented a formal complaint. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Kanakapura Town Police Station. Police are investigating and looking into all the available evidence from video recordings and witness accounts.
The incident has raised concerns among transport workers, who have called for a fair and transparent review. Employee representatives have stressed that staff should be able to raise workplace grievances without fear of intimidation or violence.
The investigation will be conducted fairly, and appropriate legal action will be taken against anyone responsible for the assault, authorities have said. Police are still trying to find and track down the five suspects who may have been involved.
For the current investigation, the case has brought into focus workplace safety issues, the rights of employees and the administrative responsibilities of public transport providers. Police will collect evidence and record statements from all parties connected to the incident.
