Five people were killed and six others injured after a passenger Sumo vehicle was involved in a serious road accident in the Karnah region of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The accident took place on Teetwal-Simari road in Simari area on Monday, September 27, 2026.
According to the report published on September 28, the vehicle skidded off the road and went into a ditch. The accident caused many casualties and the rescue and medical response quickly took place in the remote region.
Five People Killed in the Accident
Five people died and six others were injured in the road accident. The identities of the dead and injured have not yet been revealed in the initial reports.
The authorities were trying to determine what caused the vehicle to lose control on the Teetwal-Simari road. Details were still being assessed in the accident.
Injured Taken to Tangdhar Hospital
After the accident, the injured were taken to Sub-District Hospital in Tangdhar for initial medical treatment.
After initial treatment, the injured were later referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara for further treatment. The injured were shifted to a higher medical center immediately after the accident and they were taken to hospital for treatment.

Bodies Taken to Tangdhar
The bodies were brought to the Tangdhar hospital in Karnah, where officials were to handle the casualties and go through the procedures.
The accident has brought to light road safety in the mountainous Karnah region, where road conditions and terrain can be formidable to drivers. At the time of the initial reports, the officials were not yet able to give the cause of this particular accident.
J&K Lieutenant Governor Expresses Grief
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief following the loss of lives.
Sinha offered condolences to the families of those who died and prayed for the recovery of the injured in a statement by Greater Kashmir. He also said he had directed the district administration to ensure that the injured receive the best possible treatment.
