The Lucknow citizens are finally relieved as the railway overbridge has been completed at Kesari Kheda. At a cost of Rs 84 crore, the 974-metre long flyover will solve traffic congestion at the crowded railway crossing and make the lives of lakhs of commuters more convenient. The inauguration ceremony has not yet been held in Lucknow but local commuters have started making use of the overbridge to bypass the traffic gridlock.
The process of the construction of this critical infrastructure project was not straightforward and there was a rather unusual and long delay. Construction started on 17 July 2023 but a halt occurred between June 2024 and June 2025. The main reason for this was the unexpected structural obstacle: there was a four-storey commercial building in the path of the bridge.
With the physical obstruction cleared, construction resumed at a fast pace and the project is on the verge of completion. Currently, workers are completing the flyover and building the road lighting, painting work, and all the infrastructure needs to be completed before the official opening. Residents of the southwestern part of the city seem so pleased with the speed of construction and say the infrastructure will change daily commuting habits.
The overbridge will benefit over 3 lakh people living within a 3-kilometre radius of the project. For years, they were dealing with high daily traffic congestion in the city, particularly when the office and school hours are busiest. The long period of construction made moving around difficult, as school children were stuck in traffic for nearly a day after school. As part of the new connectivity, the communities will benefit from Kesari Kheda, Manas Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Chunnu Kheda, Prasadi Kheda, Pandit Kheda, Shubham City, and Balkrishna Nagar. Once it is completed, it will open the flyover and make travel more comfortable for all people in the city.
