Madhya Pradesh Shocker: Class 10 Student Delivers Baby During Board Exam

A routine board examination became a scene of utter shock and medical emergency on Tuesday in Pithampur, an industrial hub in the Dhar district. An underage Class 10 student, whom the exam centre wanted to send in for her Mathematics paper, went into labour and gave birth in the examination center’s bathroom to a baby boy.

The incident has led to a national discussion on teen mental health, the fact that so many people do not talk about that, and the cultural conditioning that drives young people to hide pregnancies even in full.

An emergency occurred during the Exam

The girl was a student registered under the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education in a private school which was to be an exam center to write paper about Mathematics. Witnesses report that she had been writing almost an hour and a half with the passage of time when she started developing severe abdominal pain.

Believing it to be a minor health problem, she asked for permission to use the washroom. A few minutes later, a cries of a newborn broke the silence of the exam hall. A female teacher hurried to the bathroom, where she found the girl with a baby boy.

Medical Intervention and Present State

The management of the examination center acted immediately, calling 108 emergency ambulance. The minor was immediately taken to the Pithampur Community Health Center (CHC) with her newborn.

  • Condition: Doctors confirmed that both mother and baby are stable and monitored.
  • Newborn Details: The baby boy reportedly weighs around 2kg.

Police and Social Issues

The most astonishing thing about the case, however, was that neither the girl's family nor her school teachers claimed to know she was pregnant. The incident itself has led to a few pointed questions about how a full-term pregnancy went unnoticed in an age when technology makes it accessible far more easily than ever.

Investigation Highlights:

  • The Alleged Father: Preliminary police investigation showed that the minor had, at first, been involved in a relationship with a youth for the past two years.
  • The Suspect: The police have found the suspected and they are making efforts to capture him by implementing relevant provisions of the POCSO Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
  • Legal Action: A zero FIR was first registered with the Pithampur police station and subsequently moved to Betma police for investigation due to the fact, the essential events that led to the pregnancy occurred in their jurisdiction.

The Silent Struggle of Minors

Experts say the threat of social stigma often drives minors to extreme measures of concealment. While smartphones and the internet are ubiquitous, the absence of meaningful conversation around reproductive health and safety in family environments remains a significant barrier. This student’s desperation in attending a potentially high-stakes board exam during the last few weeks of labor brings to light the pressure to keep up to a certain standard, such as looking normal.
