A dispute over a Ganeshotsava celebration in Bengaluru's Malleshwaram area has led to a protest in front of the residence of MLA Munirathna. A Ganesh idol in a local festival celebration was installed in 11th Cross, Munirathna House Road.
According to the allegations surrounding the incident, the MLA objected to the block in the road being connected to Ganeshotsava arrangements, wondering whether residents and organisers were causing inconvenience to the public by occupying the road.
The dispute then became a bigger one, and residents and others gathered outside the MLA’s residence to protest.
Dispute over Ganesh Idol Installation
The controversy began with the installation of a Ganesh idol on the road near 11th Cross in Malleshwaram. The celebrations were organised under Chandrashekhar Naidu.
The issue was that the festival used the road, and commuters and residents were inconvenienced, the report said.
Munirathna expressed anger about the road being blocked and questioned the organisers about the inconvenience to the public, the allegations say.
The dispute later turned into a larger conflict between the Ganeshotsava supporters and the MLA.
Allegations over Remarks in Annadana
Another point of dispute is that Munirathna used abusive language during an annadana (community meal) organised as part of the Ganeshotsava.
Residents say they have been told that derogatory language was used when talking about people who served food at the event.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the MLA’s residence

Protesters raised slogans and confronted the MLA’s vehicle on arrival at the scene. Reports from the event indicate that protesters tried to stop the vehicle, causing much tension in that area.
The situation attracted attention as it took place near the MLA’s residence.
Police Escort MLA Out of Residence
In the midst of the protests, police were deployed to protect the area around the protest.
Munirathna left his house under police protection as tension continued outside. Police were at the centre of the situation to keep things in check and maintain public order.
