In Mandya, a dramatic and emotionally charged incident took place when a man publicly accused a former JD(S) MLA of having an illegal relationship with his wife and sought justice from H. D. Kumaraswamy.
The incident took place in the vicinity of the District Panchayat office where Kumaraswamy came to attend a DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) meeting. When he visited the District Panchayat office, a man named Prasanna from Malavalli approached him with a complaint and told him about his problems.
Prasanna said that his wife is in a relationship with a former JD(S) legislator who has been named Dr. K. Annadani. Even though he had raised the matter several times with the former MLA and had tried to tell him, he was threatened and intimidated, he said.
Prasanna claimed that the former legislator had purchased an apartment worth ₹1.5 crore in Mysuru for his wife. He also said the MLA regularly visits the house and keeps in touch with her through long conversations on the phone, especially at night.
The husband had previously filed complaints on the matter but hadn’t had any relief, he said, and was not happy at all. He said he was now the target of a defamation lawsuit and a defamation case was filed against him, so it was getting much harder.
Prasanna is now seeking a divorce from his wife and she has refused to grant it until he pays ₹30 lakh, he says. “If my wife wants to be with someone else, how can I continue in this marriage?” he said, expressing his pain, according to the report.
He said there is evidence to back up his claims and presented a petition to Kumaraswamy for help and justice. The former Chief Minister has since assured him that the matter would be looked into.
There has been much attention because of the allegations and an extremely senior political figure involved. But these are just allegations and no official evidence or legal conclusion has been reached.
Kumaraswamy is expected to address the issue after the DISHA meeting. The case is also an illustration of how personal problems and political responsibilities intersect and how we need to know if there are proper channels for grievance redress.
And so for that reason, authorities may examine and verify the claims and evidence. All parties will be under scrutiny, and more investigation will be required to establish the facts.
