Mangaluru: Four men have been sentenced to life in prison for Gangadhara Pangala’s murder in Mangaluru in 2014 following a decade-long legal battle.

Four convicted in the murder case
The court found the following accused guilty of Gangadhara Pangala's murder and sentenced each of them to life imprisonment:

The judgment comes after almost 10 years of investigation and trial in which prosecutors presented a mountain of evidence to the court.
The incident was first reported as a road accident
The incident was in Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada district, on 15 May 2014.
At the time, Gangadhara Pangala’s death was reported as a fatal road accident. The circumstances initially seemed like a traffic collision, and the case was treated accordingly in the early stages.
But the evidence that investigators gathered after the scene and other pieces of evidence were not consistent, and they began to suspect that the death could be the result of an accident.
Investigation uncovered murder plot
Police collected scientific, medical, and circumstantial evidence that reportedly contradicted the theory of a road accident.
Investigators later determined that the victim’s death was the result of a pre-planned conspiracy. The prosecution said the accused had tried to portray the killing as a traffic accident to mislead investigators and avoid criminal liability.
