In a disturbing incident from Mangaluru, a 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to murder a scooter rider by deliberately ramming his car into him following a financial dispute linked to a land deal.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Sharif (26), a resident of Palneer, was taken into custody by the Mangaluru East Police Station after the incident, which occurred on Arya Samaj Road. The victim, Mohan Das Shetty (56), a resident of Mallikatte, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
According to police sources, the two individuals had an ongoing dispute related to a land transaction and financial dealings. It is reported that Sharif had invested nearly ₹2 crore in land properties located in Surathkal, Kana, and Vamanjoor. He allegedly suspected that Mohan Das Shetty had cheated him in the deal, which led to growing tensions between them.
On the day of the incident, the accused and the victim reportedly got into a heated argument by the roadside. Shortly after, Mohan Das Shetty left the spot on his scooter. In a fit of rage, Sharif allegedly followed him in his car and intentionally rammed into the scooter, attempting to cause fatal injuries.
The entire sequence of events was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area, providing crucial evidence for the investigation. Locals who witnessed the incident rushed to help the injured victim and alerted authorities.
Police have registered a case of attempted murder and are continuing their investigation into the matter. Officials stated that further details regarding the financial transactions and land dispute are being examined.
The incident has once again highlighted how escalating personal and financial disputes can turn violent, underlining the need for legal resolution rather than taking matters into one’s own hands.
