Massive Fire Breaks Out at Hyderabad's Ameerpet Coaching Hub; 90 Students Rescued

Ameerpet, a busy educational center, was engulfed in panic on February 20, 2026, when a huge fire broke out in a tall building housing several coaching institutes. The blaze occurred on the fourth floor of the Nilgiri Block near the bustling Maitrivanam junction in the Aditya Enclave complex. Around 90 students were attending classes at a computer training institute when this incident took place.

Dramatic Rescue Operations

As thick black smoke started to spread down the corridors, frightened students clustered on balconies and shouted for help.

  • Self-Evacuation: Several students managed to come down to the lower floors via external pipes and balconies.
  • Local Heroism: Six local men jumped toward the building, using ladders and safety nets, according to witnesses, before the official fire crews arrived.
  • Fire Department Response: Hyderabad Fire Service sent up multiple fire tenders. Using ladders and oxygen masks made possible, firefighters were able to get up to the fourth floor and pull out all the trapped people.

Casualties and Damage

Thankfully, the authorities were able to report no loss of life or major injury. Students and staff there were all accounted for and were taken to safety.

The building, home to a significant center for IT and software training, suffered high levels of property damage on the fourth floor. The Hyderabad Traffic Police put out an alert as a response to the rescue operation and heavy congestion on the SR Nagar Road and the Maitrivanam stretch spread by the rescue operation.

Preliminary Cause

Though a thorough investigation is underway, officials at the fire department believe an electrical short circuit in a server room or a battery unit likely caused the blaze.

“We’ve put out the fire. Our priority was the safe evacuation of the students. We are currently reviewing the building's fire safety codes," said a senior police officer in Jubilee Hills.

Safety Concerns in Coaching Hubs

The event has rekindled fears for the safety of young people in Ameerpet, a district of overcrowded, dilapidated commercial complexes where thousands of children attend classes every day. Several establishments are now closed for the day because of today's fire.
