One such tragedy was reported, a 16-year-old girl who had gone missing was found dead in a village lake in Karnataka’s Kolar district, raising suspicions in the household and the community, the report said.
The victim was identified as Kavitha, a native of Harati village in Kolar taluk. Thursday, the teenager went missing from her home, and her relatives started looking for her and looking to law enforcement for help when they were unable to find her. The complaint was made in the case of the missing person through the Kolar Rural Police Station.
They were trying to find and research where she was before she disappeared. The case was sadly decided when Kavitha’s body was discovered in a lake in the vicinity of the village. Residents found the body and noticed it floating in water, so they quickly notified authorities.
Almost immediately, police, fire and emergency services arrived at the scene; fire brigade crews conducted a rescue and recovery operation and, with the help of police officers and villagers, extracted the body from the lake. All of a sudden, after hearing the news, grieving relatives and neighbours flooded onto the lake scene, tense moments surrounding their families coursing through.
The family said relatives of the deceased speculated and feared how she died. Relatives of the deceased asked how the teenager had reached the lake, and they demanded a full inquiry. They are called to summon the authorities to consider all potential angles, including whether any individual killed the child on the grounds of foul play.
Initially, police arrived in the area and began gathering evidence. Official records will most likely include, if not include, the words of relatives, villagers or those perceived to be related to the girl before her disappearance. This will require the body to submit itself to a postmortem examination to assess the cause of death.
The official said that the medical report helped decide whether the death was accidental, suicidal and/or criminal. The story has shaken and filled Harati village, which in turn affects a lot of others, including its children and girls, young girls and young women, who live alone in rural areas.
Residents expect the police to hold a complete and open investigation into the teenager’s death. Missing minors play a common role in community division in rural areas. Sometimes, events with serious consequences (like when a minor goes missing) cause significant sorrow and concern to the community.
The family said police would investigate the case, while all relevant components of the investigation would be scrutinised, and the family would get serious attention after the death.
