A tragic accident took place during Ganeshotsav in Mumbai yesterday evening and killed two people, including an 8-year-old girl -- and four others were injured in an electrocution incident near a Ganesh pandal in the heart of the Lalbaug area. According to officials, the accident took place around 2:20 a.m. at the Kalachowki Division Sarvajanik Utsav Mandal Ganesh pandal located on Dattaram Lad Marg in the Kalachowki area in Lalbaug. At the time of the incident, which is home to some of Mumbai’s most popular Ganesh festival celebrations, there were hundreds of devotees in the area.
The electrocution occurred as some people were in the area, and people gathered near the pandal felt panic, they said. Preliminary information indicates several people touched an electrical source, and one of them was killed. Emergency services were immediately activated, and residents rushed to help those who had been injured.
Mumbai Fire Brigade officials received information about the incident at roughly 2:42 a.m. Following the emergency call, Mumbai Police, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) and civic ward office personnel were sent to the location. Rescue and relief efforts were immediately launched to get the injured the help they needed.
Two people died in the incident, including an eight-year-old girl, officials said. The identities of the victims were not officially known at the time the incident occurred. Four others suffered injuries and were sent to hospitals. Medical officials said the injured victims are being treated and are being closely watched.
