Mumbai commuters should prepare for massive travel cancellations next Sunday, October 6, as railway authorities have scheduled megablocks on the Central, Harbour and Western Railway lines. Maintenance work will have a bearing on suburban trains and services that are expected to be disrupted, cancelled or stopped throughout the day.

The block is expected to remain in place from 10:55 AM to 3:55 PM. During this period, down slow line services from CSMT will be diverted onto the down fast line between CSMT and Vidyavihar.
The diverted trains are expected to make scheduled stops at major stations, such as Byculla, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion and Kurla, before diverting back to the slow line at Vidyavihar.
The normal way trains will move up and down the Central Railway corridor during the maintenance period will change. Passengers should pay close attention to announcements at railway stations and check the destination and platform on which trains will come in and out before boarding.
Major Harbour Line Disruptions Expected
The Harbour Line is also expected to see significant disruptions as there is a megablock between 11:10 AM and 4:40 PM.
The maintenance block will affect both the up and down lines between CSMT and Chunabhatti/Bandra. As a result, several suburban train services operating through this corridor will remain suspended during the block period.
Down services travelling from CSMT and Wadala towards Vashi, Belapur and Panvel are expected to be affected. Services from Bandra and Goregaon towards CSMT will also be stopped due to maintenance work.
The disruption will also affect up-line services. Trains from Panvel, Belapur and Vashi travelling towards CSMT will not be running during the affected hours.
The Harbour Line links several important residential and commercial areas to South Mumbai and is heavily used by office-goers and weekend travellers. With services suspended on a large part of the line, passengers may need to consider alternate means of transportation.
Western Railway Fast Services to Be Diverted
Western Railway commuters will also face changes in train operations due to a scheduled block on the fast lines between Churchgate and Mumbai Central.
The block is scheduled from 10:35 AM to 3:35 PM. Fast suburban services between Churchgate and Mumbai Central will be diverted to the slow lines during this time.
The diversion will likely lead to longer travel times and more congestion at stations along the route. Local up and down services may also be cancelled as railway authorities adjust the timetable to accommodate the maintenance work.
In addition, some services going towards Churchgate may be short-terminated at Bandra or Dadar. These trains will then start their return journey from their respective stations instead of going to the destinations.
Passengers travelling on Western Railway should closely monitor train schedules, especially those in the fast services during the maintenance period.

The simultaneous megablocks across Mumbai's three major suburban railway lines will cause a huge inconvenience for passengers.
