Teachers’ Day is observed in India on the basis of the importance to teachers of their students and to build out the communities. On Teachers’ Day 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the contribution of teachers and recalled the former President and great philosopher Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.
In a message posted on social media, Prime Minister Modi said that Teachers’ Day was to recognize teachers’ contribution to society and its contribution towards education. It’s also an opportunity to pay respect to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary which is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India, he said.
The Prime Minister also gave a glimpse of what happened when winners of the National Teachers’ Awards were invited to 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, the official residence of the Prime Minister of India. At the same time, to be able to recognise the teachers that have made a significant contribution to teaching and education.
