The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an alert to residents regarding a 24-hour complete water supply shutdown across several key areas of Mumbai. The disruption is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM on Friday, December 12, 2025, and will last until 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2025. The measure is deemed essential to carry out major and critical water pipeline connectivity work, aimed at upgrading the city's long-term water distribution system and ensuring future reliability.
Three Major Wards Heavily Impacted
The water supply cut will primarily affect thousands of households and commercial establishments across three major municipal wards: K/East, H/East, and G/North. These wards cover high-density residential zones, commercial hubs, and crucial infrastructure areas, necessitating careful planning by residents. The BMC is working on connecting several large pipelines simultaneously, including the 1,800 mm Tansa West main, the 1,200 mm and 2,400 mm Vaitarna main lines, and a 1,500 mm pipeline in the G/North ward. This complex operation requires a continuous 24-hour halt in supply.

Advisory and Precautionary Measures

- Store Adequate Water: Ensure sufficient water is stored in clean containers for drinking and essential daily chores before the shutdown begins at 9 AM on December 12.
- Use Water Judiciously: Conserve the stored water carefully during the 24-hour period.
- Health Precaution: As a general precaution following major pipeline work, the BMC has advised all affected households to boil and filter water for a few days after the supply resumes.
The civic body assured the public that the work is necessary to prevent potential breakdowns in the aging infrastructure, which could lead to broader and more severe shortages in the future.
