Residents and proprietors of some prominent districts operating under the V.V. Mohalla Sub-division, along with various other key localities, should brace for an electricity service outage on Monday, January 19, 2026. The Executive Engineer of the V.V. Mohalla Division said that power is to be suspended between 10:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m. to ensure that UG cables get installed in the project site.
Infrastructure Modernization and Technical Objectives
The project is part of a broader effort by the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) to upgrade the city’s aged power system. The department is moving to underground cabling in hopes of greatly improving the quality of the system’s power, minimizing technical-loss effects, and reducing the risk of electrocution including during heavy monsoon events in Mysuru.
The underground system is much less vulnerable to environmental drivers such as falling tree branches and strong winds, that contribute to the regular outages that can occur in the V.V. Mohalla region, officials said.
In the affected areas
The power disruption will mainly impact the areas around the SLV 11 KV line which are directly connected. Central areas slated to experience an outage are:
- Gokulam Park Road (including B.C. Lingaiah Park area)
- Areas behind the SLV Temple
- Vicinity of the V.V. Puram Police Station
- Valmiki Road
- 2nd Main Road, V.V. Mohalla
- Surrounding residential and commercial pockets within these bounds.
Public Advisory and Preparation
The CESC has informed residents to take measures, if any, at all, to prevent injuries during these eight hours. You’ll be told to do any electrical work, like feeding water pumps or charging your household appliances, before the 10:00 AM deadline. For business people, and particularly to people who run stores and businesses in the V.V. Mohalla and Gokulam area to avoid heavy operational interruptions, officials suggest alternative arrangements ensuring UPS systems are fully charged or generators are fueled.
Although the inconvenience is unfortunate in the short term, the Executive Engineer highlighted the long-term benefits with a more reliable, safer and uninterrupted power grid for the city, thanking the public for their understanding. If the job gets done early, it can bring power back earlier, at no advance notice.
