The city police in Nashik had reported that a widespread scandal, which included sexual harassment, blackmail and forced religious conversion, was taking place with the support of a well known multinational IT company, the news which affected the whole state of Maharashtra. Six men Asif Ansari, Shafi Sheikh, Shahrukh Qureshi, Raza Memon and Tausif Attar are arrested after female employees have made several accusations.
A Systematic Scam and Brainwashing
The inquiry had been triggered after eight women and one man went public following alleged months of abuse. The perpetrators, some of whom were team leaders, systematically exploited young female employees under the guise of offering "career mentorship" and professional development, the officials said.
The Modus Operandi:
- Success Attraction: Victims were offered rapid promotions and high-paying work to gain trust.
- Focus “brainwashing”: The team leaders allegedly used psychology to cut the women off from their families.
- Sexual Harassment & Blackmail: Once trust was built, victims were sexually exploited. Multiple cases involved harassment that included extortion based on such sensitive, private personal information.
Forced Conversion and the Allegations of Conversion
Among its most disturbing features is that of conversion to religion. There’s pressure for the accused to compel them to adhere to Islam, according to victims.
- Compulsion to Pray: There’s evidence that women were made to conduct Namaz (prayers) at work.
- Diet Limitations: Victims said they were subjected to eating beef and adopting other dietary customs following faiths.
- Love Trap: The accused is alleged to have lured the women to engage with one another in love affairs with the sole intention of forcing them into marriage and conversion.
The investigation also showed the harassment wasn’t limited to women: a male employee complained, too, saying he had been pushed to change his faith in turn.
SIT Created After Demonstrations Across State
Nashik City Police, noting the sensitivities and potential situation of community unrest, has formed the Special Investigation Team (SIT), an authority to go in-depth about how the company operates and the network in which the accused operate.
“There are eight FIRs registered at Mumbai Naka Police Station and one at Deolali Camp Station,” it added. “The violation of religious sentiments and the security of women in the workplace was a gross violation. We’re looking for additional victims who have not reported the incident,”
The case has sparked a massive political spat in Maharashtra and far more social and political groups have demanded severe fines against all those responsible. The affair has also led some private multinationals to pressure companies to introduce stricter background checks and internal safety inspections to prevent “brainwashing” rings from entering the workplace.
