The wait for Mumbai’s second international gateway is nearly over. Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL) has confirmed that commercial operations will commence this Christmas, bringing with it a suite of cutting-edge digital services aimed at eliminating travel friction.
High-Speed Connectivity for All
At the heart of the airport’s digital ecosystem is a commitment to 100% connectivity. NMIAL will offer free high-speed Wi-Fi with speeds of up to 10 Mbps throughout the terminal. The network is engineered to maintain high stability even during peak traffic hours, allowing passengers to handle video calls, stream content, and complete digital payments without interruption.
In a strategic move to support the "Make in India" initiative, the airport has partnered with state-run BSNL to provide 4G and 5G-ready mobile network services, utilizing indigenous telecom infrastructure developed by TCS, Tejas Networks, and C-DoT.
The "Adani OneApp": Your Virtual Assistant
Moving away from traditional static information boards, the airport will rely on a digital-first communication system. Upon connecting to the airport Wi-Fi, passengers will be guided by the Adani OneApp. This virtual assistant will provide:
- Real-time Alerts: Instant notifications on flight status, boarding gate changes, and baggage carousel numbers.
- Interactive Wayfinding: Digital maps to navigate the Lotus-inspired terminal, helping travelers find retail outlets, lounges, and "Pranaam" meet-and-greet services.
- Touch-Free Processing: Integration with DigiYatra for biometric face-recognition boarding and 22 automated self-bag-drop units available from Day One.
Reducing Terminal Congestion
By pushing personalized updates directly to smartphones, the airport aims to reduce the "huddle" often seen around physical flight information display systems (FIDS). "Everything has been carefully curated, keeping in mind the diverse needs of Indian passengers," stated Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airports.
The first phase of the airport is set to handle 20 million passengers annually, with the inaugural flight—IndiGo 6E460 from Bengaluru—scheduled to touch down at 8:00 AM on opening day.
