New TV Installed in Darshan’s Jail Barrack Following Court Order

Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa, currently lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, is set to receive a brand-new television set in his barracks. Prison authorities confirmed that a new TV was booked from a local showroom on Tuesday and is scheduled for installation in Darshan’s designated cell today, Wednesday.

New Purchase Based on Court Directives

The decision to install a new television—rather than relocating an existing unit from another barracks, which is common practice—stems from a specific instruction from the court. The court had directed jail authorities to ensure that Darshan, who holds a large public following, is provided with facilities as per the rules and security protocols.

  • Departure from Norm: Jail officials usually reallocate existing television sets within the premises when a need arises in a specific cell. However, in this instance, a fresh purchase was sanctioned and completed, specifically referencing the court’s instructions regarding the high-profile inmate.
  • Installation Today: Prison staff are slated to fix the new TV in Darshan's barracks today. This facility is generally provided to inmates to allow them access to news and information, complying with human rights guidelines for detention facilities.

Limited Channel Access and Strict Rules

While the new television is being installed, access to content will be heavily restricted, adhering to strict prison guidelines.

  • Selected Channels Only: Darshan will only be allowed to watch a limited number of channels, which typically include state-run news, educational, and general entertainment channels approved by the jail administration. Access to streaming services or unauthorized content remains strictly prohibited.
  • Compliance with Security: The move ensures that the facility provided does not compromise the security and discipline of the prison environment.

The provision of the new television comes as the actor faces continued judicial custody, with his team simultaneously managing the upcoming release of his film, The Devil.
