A shocking incident has rocked Kollam district in Kerala after notorious gangster Aluva Athul was brutally murdered in broad daylight on Saturday in the Karunagappally area.
The killing has reignited fears of escalating gang wars in the region, with police suspecting the attack to be an act of revenge linked to earlier gang rivalry cases.
Planned Attack Near Puthiyakavu
According to police officials, the incident took place near Puthiyakavu when Athul was travelling in his car along with an associate. A group of five assailants allegedly rammed their vehicle into Athul’s car, forcing it off the road and into a roadside ditch.
With the vehicle immobilised, the attackers reportedly surrounded the car and launched a brutal assault on Athul before he could escape. He died at the scene due to severe injuries.
Athul’s associate, who was also inside the vehicle during the attack, sustained injuries and was later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
CCTV Footage Surfaces
CCTV footage of the shocking attack has surfaced online, showing the attackers carrying out the assault swiftly before fleeing the scene.

Investigators revealed that the vehicle used by the attackers was not registered in Kerala, raising suspicions that individuals from outside the state may have been involved in the crime.
Link to Gym Santhosh Murder Case
Police believe the murder may be connected to the killing of gang leader Gym Santhosh, which occurred on March 27 last year.
Athul was the prime accused in that case, where he and his associates allegedly stormed Santhosh’s residence and attacked him. Following the murder, Athul fled but was arrested three weeks later in Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu.
He had recently been released on bail before the latest attack took place.
Police Launch Major Investigation
Following the murder, police have launched a full-scale investigation, focusing primarily on gang rivalry as the motive behind the killing.
Security has been tightened across Kollam district to prevent further violence, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and tracking suspects involved in the attack.
Officials fear the incident could trigger further retaliatory violence between rival gangs if immediate measures are not taken.
