If you have even a few minutes on social media over the last few years, you know someone like Orhan Awatramani, better known as Orry. He’s also one of the most popular people on the internet.
But there has always been one question that follows him everywhere: What exactly does Orry do?
Now the social media phenomenon has finally yielded us a clear answer—and the numbers have left many people stunned.
Orry’s income: He recently earned Rs 76 lakh from a single brand deal involving just one Instagram reel. Online it quickly became a topic with people going over how influential personal branding has become in the digital age.
But Orry says social media promotions are only one part of his business.
According to him, people can actually hire him to go to private events and that’s where another important source of income comes from. His appearance fees reportedly range between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 25 lakh depending on the event.
Orry said that clients can invite him to weddings, birthday parties, lunches, dinners and other social gatherings. He joked that he would happily mingle with guests, pose for photos, give speeches and act as if he had known the hosts for years.
"For Rs 15 to Rs 25 lakh, you can buy me for lunch, dinner, weddings or birthdays," he told us about the experience he offers.
Orry’s business model is not a product or service, but he is selling a brand; he is monetising his popularity, social media presence and celebrity image. In many ways, he has turned himself into a brand.
His famous photo pose, often recreated by fans online, has also become part of that identity. Orry jokingly compared his signature pose to some of the most recognizable poses in Indian entertainment.
So naturally, his comments caused a flood of responses on social media.
Many people joked about the concept of "paid friendships." One user wrote, "We got paid friendships before GTA 6." Another commented, "Orry is a social experiment, and nobody can convince me otherwise."
Others were just astonished that attending events could be making such a huge amount of money. Some users joked that they would save up to invite Orry to their own weddings, while some asked just how celebrity appearances have become such a big business.
Even with jokes and memes, Orry’s success signals a growing trend in the influencer economy. Social media personalities today can hold careers that are quite different from traditional jobs. Instead of working a routine office job (if they work in the office), most influencers make money through brand partnerships, appearances, endorsements and personal branding.
Orry had another lighthearted response when the question was asked who oversees his finances: His parents still manage his money. He even joked that he has no plans to take it over anytime soon.
Love him or not, one thing is clear: Orry has figured out how to turn internet fame into a profitable business. And from the reaction online, people are still fascinated by him.
