An abrupt incident occurred in Patna on Saturday evening when a jewellery shop owner prevented a robbery attempt. At 5 p.m., two women came to Maa Vaishno Jewellers at Kurji Bridge and said they were customers looking for earrings. They then sprayed pepper spray at the shop owner Rajesh Kumar in an attempt to incapacitate him and carry out the heist.
Rajesh Kumar escaped most of the spray and rushed outside the store in a quick fashion. He put the suspects in prison before they could escape with any valuables. The quick response not only protected the jewellery but also bought time to alert locals and the police.
Within minutes a crowd of residents gathered outside the shop. Local residents forced the door open and caught the suspects. One of the women fainted when she was dragged out by her hair during the clash, witnesses said. The suspects were then handed over to the Digha police who are looking into the matter.
Police are now reviewing CCTV footage to see if the women had accomplices waiting nearby. No jewellery is believed to have been stolen during the attempted robbery, police officials said, and that the store owner’s presence of mind and the community’s quick response.

The incident highlights the risks that small business owners face and the importance of community vigilance. Patna has seen a number of attempted robberies in recent years, but this case is unique when locals have banded together to stop the crime. It also shows that shopkeepers need to be more educated and prepared if they are to be able to operate well in high-risk areas.
The failed heist at Maa Vaishno Jewellers shows how quick thinking and collective action can prevent crime. Rajesh Kumar’s decision to trap the suspects and the locals’ intervention ensured that the robbery attempt ended without loss of property. Now police investigations will be carried on to identify any wider network behind the suspects, and the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of alertness and community solidarity in safeguarding businesses.
