His journey started on October 7, 2001 when he took oath as Chief Minister of Gujarat. After 12 years in the state, Modi moved to national politics and became Prime Minister in 2014. Since then he has led the country for three consecutive terms.

“This Is the blessing of the people”.

When he was speaking at the Seva Jyoti programme, Modi reflected on the long journey of his political journey and expressed gratitude to the people.

He said: “Today, I have completed 25 years of continuously serving as Head of Government. This is the blessing of the people. I bow before the people of the country."

The statement placed public trust at the centre of his reflections on 25 years in government.

The main Seva Jyoti programme of Delhi BJP was held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, and Modi was scheduled to address the gathering at 9:30 am.

From Gujarat Chief Minister to Prime Minister

Modi's political journey at the head of government started during a difficult period for Gujarat. He became chief minister after the 2001 earthquake and remained in the post until 2014.

In his tenure, he was very focused on infrastructure, electricity, water availability, industrial development and governance reforms.

In 2014, the BJP won the majority in the Lok Sabha election and Modi became Prime Minister. He returned to power in 2019 and 2024.

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan Marks the Milestone

The Seva Jyoti programme is part of BJP's broader Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a month-long campaign launched on September 17, Modi's birthday, and to be ongoing until October 17.

Consequently, the programme includes social service activities, blood donation drives, public outreach, youth programmes, ceremonial lamp lighting and events highlighting government welfare initiatives.

October 7 was a very important day, and Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatras and related programmes were planned in a number of states.

A political milestone of national significance

The 25-year mark is significant because Modi has been at the helm of a government since 2001.

The Union Cabinet also passed a resolution on October 6 congratulating Modi for 25 years of continuous leadership. The resolution highlighted his tenure in Gujarat and at the Centre and praised what it described as his governance and reform record.

What comes next?

The milestone is also being used by the BJP to reinforce its political message around Seva, Viksit Bharat and public participation.

For Modi, it is a moment for him to reflect on a political career that spans a quarter of a century and to reaffirm his focus on India's development goals.

As the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan continues through October 17, events across the country are expected to keep the focus on Modi's 25-year journey and the BJP's broader vision for Viksit Bharat 2047.
