PM Modi in Assam: 'SIR to Oust Infiltrators, Congress Protecting Them'

Speaking at a massive public rally, PM Modi emphasized his government's unwavering commitment to securing India's borders and protecting the interests of its indigenous communities.

The 'SIR' Initiative and Infiltration Threat

PM Modi reiterated the BJP's resolve to implement the Sensitive Infiltration and Registration (SIR) initiative, which aims to identify and deport illegal immigrants.

"I want to assure the people of Assam that the BJP government is committed to ensuring that every infiltrator is out of this land," PM Modi declared. "Our 'SIR' initiative is designed for this very purpose, to protect the rights and resources of the sons and daughters of Assam."

He directly contrasted the BJP's stance with that of the opposition: "On one hand, the BJP is working day and night to identify and remove infiltrators. On the other hand, the Congress party is giving them protection, acting as their shield for vote-bank politics."

Congress Accused of Vote-Bank Politics

The Prime Minister accused the Congress of historically leveraging the issue of illegal immigration for electoral gains, thereby jeopardizing the cultural and demographic fabric of Assam. He stated that the Congress's policies had led to demographic shifts and strained resources, which the BJP is now working to reverse.

"For decades, the Congress has played with the future of Assam. They have allowed this problem to fester, all for their own political benefits," Modi asserted, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd. "But the people of Assam are intelligent. They understand who stands with them and who stands with the infiltrators."

Focus on Development and Security

Beyond the issue of infiltration, PM Modi also highlighted the development projects initiated by the BJP government in Assam, including infrastructure upgrades, flood control measures, and efforts to boost local industries. He linked these development efforts directly to the enhanced security of the state's borders.

The rally in Tezpur is part of PM Modi's extensive campaign trail in the run-up to the crucial Lok Sabha elections, where Assam is expected to be a key battleground state. The issue of infiltration remains a highly sensitive and politically charged topic in the region.
