PM Modi Inaugurates Adichunchanagiri Memorial in Mandya

This was the time Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a rare joyous visit as he descended upon Sri Kshetra Adichunchanagiri in Mandya district today, to observe the opening of the Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira. The memorial is a beautiful tribute to Sri Sri Sri Dr Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji, the 71st Senior Pontiff of the Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, whose life was dedicated to the tenets of “Anna” (Food), “Akshara” (Education), and “Arogya” (Health).

A Landmark Spiritual And Architectural Landmark

Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira, built in Dravidian architecture, signifies the seer’s spiritual status and the great role he played in society. The Prime Minister performed a special puja and offered flowers to the late seer in the ‘Gadduge’ (memorial shrine) during the inauguration.

Along with the Prime Minister came the pontiff on a long-awaited visit, Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. Speaking to a huge crowd of devotees at the BGS Stadium, PM Modi referred to the Mandira not just as a building of stone and mortar, but as a "lighthouse of inspiration" enabling future generations to make a selfless path within themselves.

Honouring a Visionary Seer

Famed as the “Modern Architect of Adichunchanagiri,” Dr. Balagangadharanatha Swamiji turned the Math into an international institution. During his 39 years in charge, he set up more than 500 educational establishments and several super-specialty hospitals to ensure that education is affordable and of quality to millions in rural Karnataka.

“The 71st Jagadguru believes that service to humanity is our highest form of worship,” he said in a speech. “His vision of what a self-reliant and educated rural India might look like resonates very closely with our aspiration for the Viksit Bharat. By introducing this Mandira, we renew loyalty to the belief in inclusion and economic upliftment which he had advocated."

Key Highlights of the Visit

  • Book release: After years of political and spiritual comradeship, PM Modi and H.D. Deve Gowda, in the only way that they could possibly hold, jointly opened the book “Saundarya Lahari and Shiva Mahimna Stotram” in the handbook-like format of a historical periodical based on classical Hindu traditions.
  • Cultural Promotions: There were folk traditional performances and a few shows in the Old Mysore region to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Natha Parampare.
  • Supply & Security: Mandya district administration did not lose sight of logistics, construction of three temporary helipads and corridors for the thousands of devotees who visited Nagamangala taluk for the occasion.

The visit emphasises the role that Adichunchanagiri Math plays in the socio-religious fabric of southern India and the government’s ongoing engagement with the spiritual centres of Karnataka.
