Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived at Kannur International Airport in Kerala on Saturday morning before going to the landslide-affected Kalladi area in Wayanad district to assess the situation on the ground.
Her visit comes at a time of the landslide that affected parts of Kalladi, and the state government and disaster response teams have been involved in relief and rescue efforts. Priyanka Gandhi will visit the area where the disaster has occurred, meet displaced people and residents affected, and will receive information from local government on the relief and rehabilitation process.

The mountainous parts of Wayanad, the third largest district in north Kerala, are especially prone to landslides when heavy monsoon rains occur.
The Congress leader will also be there to see the damage and to show solidarity to families affected by the disaster. She was also going to discuss the relief efforts and what is going on with the families in the immediate sense of the situation with officials in the district and local representatives.
Disaster response agencies and the Kerala administration have been working to clear debris, reestablish communication, and provide essential assistance, including temporary shelter, food, medical care, and other relief to families affected by the disaster. Rehabilitation efforts continue as officials assess damage to homes, roads, and public infrastructure.
Landslides and other natural disasters often disrupt Kerala’s high-population areas in the southwest monsoon, which is why disaster management, early warning systems, and sustainable land-use planning are required. Expert advice has always been given for better monitoring in vulnerable areas and evacuation measures during heavy rains.
Priyanka Gandhi’s visit underlines the political and humanitarian attention being given to Wayanad, a district that has witnessed a lot of rain-related disasters in recent years. Her interactions with affected citizens will strengthen the sense of the people of the landslide to recover and rebuild their lives after the landslide.
