Puducherry received heavy rain on Saturday and mixed heavy showers with clouds that helped bring temperatures down, but affected much of the Union Territory.
It rained suddenly and in the early morning, but rained intermittently throughout the day, disrupting daily life for many people. Road pollution and low-lying locations were poor, with many people reporting flooded roads, no path through water levels and traffic jams. Rains came regularly, and high winds hit White Town, Mudaliarpet, Reddiarpalayam, Lawspet and the coastal areas.
But other areas had waterlogged stretches, so during rush hours, commuters shuddered when cars crawled up on waterlogged stretches. Local authorities and disaster management officials were called and dispatched to aid in clearing impeding storm water and drainage systems as needed.
Rough weather had hindered traffic, and difficult conditions made it hard to shift in and out of town from town to town. Bad weather had exacerbated traffic jams, and traffic had decreased due to the lacklustre weather. “There were complaints that even better traffic jams were being made worse when the weather here got even further disrupted due to lacklustre weather.

According to local officials, city water authorities were sent down to flooding areas so water could flow steadily and stay off the flood plain to save the city from being flooded. The rains, weather officials said, linked to atmospheric disruptions at the Bay of Bengal, contributed to increased moisture activity over regions of coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also claimed that moderate to heavy precipitation is expected in isolated areas in the next 24 hours. Fishermen are warning those living on the Puducherry coast of rising seas and high winds due to changing weather. The coast is monitored by the police as a warning regarding bad stuff happening.
They did not miss much of the rain during the day, which was sufficient to keep the humid weather we’d experienced a week earlier at bay. But some urban areas in the cities were afraid that heavy rain would become waterlogged if it occurred in some urban areas, residents said.
Like the locals, shopkeepers and small business owners in densely trafficked marketplaces reported fewer customers moving, and countless people remained indoors due to unrelenting showers. But schools and offices stayed open and operating, and there were no large reports of severe flooding or destruction.
Rain is also expected to continue in certain regions of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, where the monsoon status over the southeast coast is more buoyant and may remain there only if conditions are already quite monsoon.
Which is also why a group of officials have been telling the citizens not to drive unnecessarily during heavy rains, and to refer to official weather warnings for storms. It is expected to be a rainy weekend, and people employed for response will be on duty.
