There has been an incident in Pune, which is alarming, a 4-year-old girl has been raped and murdered by a 65-year-old man. But the horrific crime has energised its residents to heed a bandh and demand that neighbours in the region crack down on the suspect.
Her family says she has gone missing, and police officials say they have found out. They began the search among residents and authorities, following the family’s disappearance and the finding reported to the police. Hours later, the child was found dead, according to a subsequent report.
That led to confusion among the people living nearby and panic among their ranks. The 65-year-old man, who lived in the area, had just been rounded up in connection with the crime, police said after early clues connected him to it.
The police had applied numerous severe rape and murder charges against the man under the relevant sections of the law and protections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. It was brutal. Part of the widespread anger felt by locals has partly been due to the vicious nature of the crime.
Demonstrators started marching up and down the streets, calling for criminal investigators to open charges as soon as possible and to expedite trial proceedings, as such a prosecution is the most serious imaginable. Many community groups and traders’ associations have also said they are sympathetic to calls for a bandh in solidarity with the victim’s family.
In order to prevent violent havoc and ensure law and order on the streets, there have been police forces beefing up security forces in some vulnerable areas. Citizens were told about and warned that when they made such remarks, police officers would instruct them out loud and would always be alert to the seriousness of their complaints.
The issue of children's safety or not in a country that suffers much from crimes against them becomes even more important, exposing us to what‘s really important. Social activism and child protection organisations criticised the crimes and called for more protection too.
The police scrutiny of those individuals, and how the system is taking care of the children, is one more place where we absolutely need to be tougher and faster, and the pace of the criminal justice system needs to be greater. The nature of the incident, the local community says, instils fear and rage; and those acts are a major violation of community security, he said.
The grieving family, among the native families and the locals who helped, appeared when the child died, and mournful emotions ran high in the crowd. Local politicians and scores of other public figures have reacted with fury, calling the crime a “brash act of savagery” and calling for stiffer sentences given to the offender.
The men of power required that we see “no delays of investigation,” and the authorities “took action to bring an immediate conclusion to this serious case of the most serious magnitude.” Forensic technicians have collected evidence from the scene, and more work persists, the sources said. Police are examining the series of events that led to its commission, including witness and family testimony.
It has, in turn, renewed concerns about the safety of women and children, triggering a trend toward governments stepping up the enforcement of laws against the abuse of women or children, which cannot put them at risk of being physically or sexually abused, and ensuring that minors are kept safe from abuse. The hashtag campaigns to stop the violation of the child went viral on the net as members of the public grieved and vented rage, even on social media.
