In another shocking daylight incident, an elderly 55-year-old woman was robbed of her gold chain by miscreants in Ramanagara district. It took place next to a bakery at Gudemaranahalli Hand Post in Magadi taluk, with the area being in danger of a breakdown.
Ambika came to the bakery to meet a friend and was sitting outside when the crime occurred. There were two young men there, drinking juice at the bakery, according to reports. In a quick and cunning move the accused seized the gold chain from Ambika's neck and ran off from there before anyone could come forward.
The stolen chain is said to weigh approximately 55 grams and it is a serious loss for the victim, the witness said. The whole incident took place within seconds, leaving bystanders stunned and unable to intervene.
And one crucial element to the case is that the entire act was recorded on CCTV cameras installed near the bakery. Evidence from these video cameras shows the suspects approach the victim and execute the theft, then get away with it in a hurry. It now gives police evidence against the accused so now police can find the ones that could have gone to jail and brought the accused down.
A case has been registered at Kuduru Police Station and an investigation is underway. Police are conducting a search operation and examining CCTV images of nearby locations for a suspect list.
The case showed that chain snatching has risen in semi-urban and rural areas and is often part of routine behavior that occurs in broad daylight. Citizens are advised by authorities, primarily women, to be careful about wearing gold ornaments in public and never wear them for too long, unless there are emergencies.
