Ride-hailing service Rapido has secured a licence to operate cab services in Karnataka until 2031, one of the biggest wins for the company as it seeks to expand its presence in the state’s urban mobility and transportation sector.
The licence will allow Rapido to continue and grow its cab operations in Karnataka (and its core urban markets). The development will also increase competition in the state’s app-based transportation industry, where commuters increasingly rely on digital platforms for convenient and affordable mobility.
Rapido, which started in India with bike-taxi services, has since expanded to include auto-rickshaws and cab services.
The approval of a licence until 2031 provides the company with a longer regulatory horizon for its cab operations in Karnataka. It could also offer Rapido a greater degree of certainty as it develops its driver-partner network and expands its services across the state.
